The 泊樂娛樂城app (泊樂娛樂城app) is excited to announce the four winners of the Student-Athlete of the Month Award for October: Gabriel Desantis, Elle Lorenz, Haydyn Brooks, and Brody Lukinbill.

For the 2024/25 season the 泊樂娛樂城app is proud to introduce the Student-Athlete of the Month Award for the four different 泊樂娛樂城app divisions/age brackets: Eastern, West Female, West U18 Male (U18 Prep, U17 Prep, U17) and West U15 Male (U15 Prep and U15) .

This award is aimed at recognizing the student-athletes within the 泊樂娛樂城app and acknowledges their hard work, dedication, commitment, leadership, academics and community impact.

We would like to congratulate these four student-athletes, who were all nominated by their programs, for their hard work in the month of October.

East Division – Gabriel Desantis, Stanstead College U17:

鈥淕abriel gives 110% at every turn. In science, he is a consistent worker and a true problem-solver- an example to the others in the class. I appreciate his calm, confident demeanour. Off ice, Gabriel is a prefect in Davis House. He is an excellent role-model for our younger students who watch and admire him.鈥

“In September and October, Gabriel was a dominant force on the pitch with the Varsity Boys Soccer team. He started every game and almost never came off the field the entire season. He was a leader and instrumental to the team鈥檚 championship season. While playing soccer 5 days a week, Gabriel also practiced 2-3 times with the U17 hockey team. The squad achieved much success with an early record of 4-0 in league play thus far. Now that winter is upon us, Gabriel will be full time hockey. He is a highly respected student-athlete and deeply involved in all aspects of school life. A true spartan!”

West Female Division – Elle Lorenz, Edge School Female U18 Prep:

“Elle Lorenz has been a part of the Edge School since 2017 where she started in grade 5. She has established herself in our school community through her excellence in the classroom and in the gym, coupled with her friendly disposition as a leader not only in the dressing room but also throughout the school. Her devotion and passion to give back to the young students athletes in our school and community has been years in the making.聽 Elle has been awarded the certificate of recognition for inspiring future generations through her passion for gender equality in sports. Through her voice, she creates positive change and empowerment through her volunteer talks with different classes and modelling the way with self-advocacy. Elle is now in her grade 12 year continuing to give back through Hero’s Hockey and additional hockey camps.”

West Male U18 Division – Haydyn Brooks, Pacific Coast Hockey Academy U17 Prep:

“Haydyn is a dedicated, hard-working grade 12 student who’s really stepping up to do his part to create a more constructive, supportive learning environment, advocating for and thoroughly participating in his own education and that of his peers at the district and classroom level! Haydyn was recently selected to represent our school, QELE峁圫EN 脕, LE峁 Secondary, at the Trustees/ Student Forum for our district where he shared his insights and recommendations with District Trustees and Senior Administration.

On the ice, Haydyn is an Assistant Captain and is a key motivator and leader for the PCHA U17 Prep team.”

West Male U15 Division – Brody Lukinbill, STAR Hockey Academy U15:

“Brody Lukinbill is an excellent candidate for the Student Athlete of the Month Award. His hard work and positive attitude set a great example for younger students at his school. As a leader, he embodies the core values of STAR Hockey Academy, showing dedication both on the ice and in the classroom. Brody’s kindness and consideration toward teammates, coaches, opponents, and officials further highlight his sportsmanship. He truly represents the ideals of teamwork and respect, making him a deserving recipient of this award.”

Okanagan Hockey Academy (OHA) student-athlete Stein Dostal has been named as the recipient of the Nick Crosby Top Scholastic Athlete Award for the 2023/24 season.

鈥淧enticton Secondary has been blessed with having Stein as a student, athlete, and leader in our school. In over 20 years of working with OHA I have not worked with a more well-rounded student. Stein is respected by students and staff in how he works with his others and strives to do his very best,鈥 said Dave Nackoney, OHA’s Academic Councillor & Pen-High’s Vice Principal. 鈥淪tein also volunteers within the school for multiple events.聽 He is part of the fabric of our school. I could not say it better when I have heard three different students say, 鈥榯hey want to be like Stein鈥. Just awesome news.鈥

The Juneau, Alaska forward has spent the past five seasons in the 泊樂娛樂城app (泊樂娛樂城app). He joined OHA in 2019/20 with their U15 team, before playing for their U15 Prep, U16 Prep, and U18 Prep teams.

鈥淥HA has had the pleasure of having Stein in our academy for the last five years. Stein has played for me on the U18 Prep team the last two seasons. Every once in a while, as a coach, you get an amazing individual, who happens to play hockey, be a member on your team. Stein was an assistant captain as a 16-year-old & this season he was our team’s captain,鈥 added OHA U18 Prep Head Coach Robert Dirk. 鈥淪tein leads by example; he absolutely NEVER gets out worked on or off the ice by any other player or teammate; he always puts the teams needs before his own; he cares about his teammates & their successes as much if not more than his own. It has been a complete pleasure & honour for me to coach & mentor this outstanding young man for the past two years and OHA is a better place because of his attendance & the legacy he leaves behind.鈥

The Nick Crosby Top Scholastic Athlete Award is awarded in Nick Crosby鈥檚 memory by the 泊樂娛樂城app to the U18 Prep player who is deemed the Top Academic student-athlete by a three-person independent committee.

“I am extremely grateful and honoured to have been selected for the Nick Crosby Top Scholastic Athlete Award. I will do my best to live up to his legacy and reputation as a player, scholar and as a person,” said Dostal.

The award was re-named in Crosby鈥檚 honour in July 2021, ten years after he passed away in a motor vehicle accident on July 5, 2011. Delta Hockey Academy鈥檚 Logan Joslin was the first ever recipient of the award during the 2021/22 season.

Originally from Ketchum, Idaho, Nick Crosby spent the inaugural 2009/10 season in the 泊樂娛樂城app as the captain of Banff Hockey Academy. He recorded 4 points in the 11 泊樂娛樂城app games that were part of his 70 plus game grade 12 season.

That season Crosby was the very first winner of the 泊樂娛樂城app鈥檚 Student Athlete of the Year award while receiving the Banff Hockey Academy Most Valuable Player and Student Athlete of the Year awards.

Years later, Crosby still exemplifies what the 泊樂娛樂城app envisions student-athletes to strive for today. As an academic based hockey league, it is the 泊樂娛樂城app鈥檚 goal to have all of our student-athletes reach their academic potential and character growth as Crosby did.

鈥淲endy and I are truly grateful that Nick鈥檚 memory is being recognized in this way and we wish to thank the 泊樂娛樂城app for renaming this award in his honour. The tremendous evolution of Nick鈥檚 confidence and abilities both in the classroom and on the ice while participating in the 泊樂娛樂城app is a testament to the league鈥檚 ambitions for its players and the discipline required of its athletes to perform at a high level in all aspects of life,鈥 said Nick鈥檚 father, Bob Crosby.

On top of his hockey related honours in 2009/10, Crosby was admitted into the Banff Community High School Lifetime Honors Society and was awarded the Banff Academy Prize for Physical Education.

Following his death Banff Hockey Academy renamed their Student Athlete of the Year Award to the Nick Crosby Student Athlete of the Year Award in 2012 and The Sun Valley Community School (Sun Valley, Idaho) awards the Nick Crosby Athlete of the Year award each year.
